Instead of repairing a minor chip in my windshield, the Safelite technician created a six inch crack that has now become a twelve inch crack. Safelite did not warn me that this could happen before they took my money and started the repair.

When I returned to my car I found the crack, a receipt, and the section of the warranty which limits their liability to "applying the cost of the repair to the replacement." Ask to see the warranty before you let them work on your car! I didn't and am now faced with an expensive replacement! I tried to resolve this through the BBB and the North Carolina Department of Justice.

Safelite refuses to budge. Don't let this happen to you!

I had a small "dime size" chip. the tech said no problem, i will take care of it.

Ten minutes later he is knocking on my front door and said "it cracked" and now you need it replaced. He also said it happens. Now i faced with taking another chance on this company or going to the dealership. I called a company referred to me by the Toyota dealership.

He said he has been doing repairs for 30 plus years. It can happen but very rarely. Safelite Tech should have said to me, I might break this, and if I do, we are not liable. I would have waited for it to get worse.

It was so small you could barely see it. Not happy with them.

I called safelite and the lady told me that their repairs are not guaranteed.

SO do I trust a company that caused more damage to my windshield or go with another company that works for the dealership? make sure you ask these questions people.

This happened to me today, new 2016 WRX with a minor crack/chip that could be completely covered by a dime ended up being a crack in two directions 1.5" to 2" in each direction. The technician told me it had to do with the way it was cracked and the dirt in it, this was a new chip, there was no dirt in it.

He said if I wasn't satisfied with it, they would do a replacement window that my insurance would cover well I have a $500 ded. What a ripoff! Is no one going to sue Safelite for obviously unscrupulous business practices?

Also, they did not give me a receipt. I am going to report them to BBB and start a class action suit against them, anyone who is interested in joining can contact me at fsafelite@***.com

Safelite is good at replacing auto glass but when it comes to a small rock chip repairs they are terrible. For repairs use a company that only specializes on windshield repair and not replacements.

Hey, guess what "Unhappy consumer" posting from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. No matter the size of the chip or the crack, you were in violation of the law and your vehicle would not have passed a safety inspection. So what's really your beef.

What a *** comment, (s)he was obviously trying to get it fixed so the car would be in compliance with the law. The point of the original post was to warn people that Safelite can take what should be a small repair job, steal your money, and break your windshield worse than it was originally.

This changes the fix from a ~$100 to ~$1000 job (plus the costs that they charge you for "Fixing" it).

Safelite didn't crack your windshield. Your windshield was already cracked.

I had an unnecessarily bad experience with Safelite too. The technician never called before preforming the repairs.

Only after calling the shop to ask about what was going on because we never heard from anyone did we learn they had been completed. Before the repair I had a small chip in my windshield that could have been covered by a coin. Now it extends more than an inch in 3 directions. If they had been more upfront about the possibility of the repair damaging the windshield beyond repair I wouldn't have done anything about it this month.

Now that the windshield is damaged beyond repair I have no choice but to pay a large deductible and replace the windshield now. Yes, the chip may have spread and led to the windshield needing to be replaced, but I might not have been forced to immediately buy a new windshield.

This JUST happened to me today. a lil starfish shaped chip (smaller than a penny) is now 3 long crack lines going in all different directions.

The technician said I have to replace the windshield.

He's very sorry. He told me it was when he applied pressure for the suction cup.

The windshield will be $266, but after arguing, they brought it down to $194.

In my opinion, if I used another glass company, with an experienced technician that doesn't want to know where I'm from and how long I've lived down here, maybe the chip would have been fixed properly.

Safelite Autoglass did a wonderful job replacing my Ford F150 windshield and vent glass. We use them all the time and have never had a problem.

Before the technician move my car around for him to work easier, there were 2 small chips. A few minutes later, suddenly a long crack line appeared from the chip.

He said I have to replace the whole windshield for $270.

After complained through my State Farm agent, they agreed to do the job for $197. What a rip off.

Same thing happened today. Went in for a less than 1/2" repair and left with an 8" crack.

Now they want $1300 to replace. :(

This was for an FJCruiser.
