As a glass shop owner I'm basically forced to work with insurance companies. This isn't necessarily bad in anyway. Actually lots of insurance companies are easy to work with and offer decent rates. However, today almost all (and yes I mean ALL) insurance companies use either the SGCNetwork (which is safelite) or LYNX services. SGCNetwork (and LYNX) are glass claims administrators. They are a middle man. When a customer needs their auto glass fixed, they contact this middle man (or they contact their insurance company and their insurance company contacts this middle man, either way they end up going through this middle man). This middle man lines the customer up with a shop to do the work. Sounds good right? Well SGCNetwork also have their own shops located all over the country, their own people who do mobile all over the country, they have even made their own safelite brand glass (which is the cheapest garbage anyone could ever get). So 95% of the time SGCNetwork sends the business to their own shops!! (This is illegal for insurance companies to do, but apparently it's technically legal for safelite to do this. So to recap anti-monopoly laws make this illegal for insurance companies to do, but somehow safelite is able to get away with it.) If the customer wants to go somewhere else safelite usually tells them how these other shops aren't certified and how there is no guarantee, and basically try to scare them into using the 'certified' shop they recommend... which is of course their own shop. Now let's say a shop does get a glass claim that safelite refers to them. First off how did this happen? It's probably because they are in a location where safelite doesn't service. So lucky for them that shop doesn't have to worry about safelite stealing all the insurance claims from them. But for this shop to receive payment from the insurance company they still have to let it go through safelite. Safelite tells them the rates they will get for the job. They can take it or leave it. Safelite couldn't care less. The shops have to pay safelite for this priviledge of being able to accept safelite's rates. They also have to pay safelite so that safelite will send them payment. No joke, go look at their website, it's under the FAQ. So a shop gets a job from any of the big insurance companies, the job is required to go through safelite, safelite says how much the shop can get, safelite then skims their portion off of the insurance company payment, sends the remainder to the shop that did the work, and the shop has to pay safelite for allowing the shop to do all the work and let safelite skim a big cut from it.

I've had to contact safelite multiple times to try to receive payment on jobs because they didn't process them. Some of these payments were months late. Everytime it's the same thing... Everything is my fault. No one at safelite can mess up. It's always me. This last time the F'n *** on the phone actually yelled at me! Worst possible customer service ever. I hate safelite.

Safelite is actually owned by Belron. In the United States they use the name Safelite. In the UK they use the name Carglass.

As I'm filling this complaint out, it wants me to tell how much money I've lost as a result of this.... I honestly don't know. But as a glass shop, probably 60% - 80% of business has to go through them, and they skim their amount off of every job. This is thousands and thousands of dollars over the years!

I agree 100%, safelite and lynx are crooks, and nobody seems to care including the ins. co's.!!!!!!!

they tried telling my son that my own shop didn't have any guarantee on work and wasn't a prefered shop, and they had a shop that was quick and reliable, been on my own for 19 yrs. in michigan they would go to insurance offices and tell the secretary that for every glass job they sent there way she would get a $10.00 gas card ....law's got changed and they can't do that anymore they suck *** - Bob

cannot believe they can stay in business because everything you have said is true and happened to me at my shop ! would love to pay their corporate office a visit !

It is a shame. As a glass tech I know there are great shops and poor ones.

I hate the fact that Safelite is shutting so many smaller outfits down OR simply buying them out. Either way people have lives to live and families to feed. I go to work and have to deal with the corporate BS everyday. MORE MORE MORE.

Success is one thing, but a windshield install is a very critical part of a car that most people don't truly understand. I have read many articles of steering, taking jobs away from shops and so on. I too, wonder how some practices go unnoticed. I have paid my dues as a tech.

Been in the game awhile. But just want some other glass guys to know that there are some of us that do care and hope that these practices stop. there is plenty of glass for all of us out there.

safelite lost their court case in ***. regarding their "steering" practice.

Other states LIKE Indiana are soon to follow suit in this matter.

I know how you feel. Just keep informing all whom you talk to that as the Insured you have the right to choose what glass company replaces your vehicle glass.
