On October 11th 2024, a technician visited my home to perform a scheduled auto windshield chip repair on my 2021 Tahoe. After attempting to repair the chip, the technician told us that the car was too hot and that he knew he shouldnt have attempted the repair which led to a new and approximate 12 crack across the windshield.
The technician apologized for the error and told us that his manager would be calling to get the windshield replaced. After waiting three days with no calls from the local Safelite office, I spent an hour on the phone e attempting to get through to schedule an appointment for replacement. I was able to get this done but was shocked to learn that the $0 repair turned in to a $670 replacement due to the technicians admitted mistake in working on the windshield in the direct heat. A garage was available for use but the technician did not use it.
Another hour or more was spent speaking to various Safelite customer service agents and local office personnel attempting to figure out why I was responsible to cover a windshield that was damaged by the technicians admitted mistake. I spoke to local office manager Sam who accepted no responsibility or empathy for this error and told me it was only $670 through my insurance with a $1000 deductible. The way this has been handled, the lack of accountability, responsibility, and concern for these actions is mind blowing.
Safelite has offered no other suggestions other than paying the cost of the replacement as they are not responsible for any damage caused by no fault of the technician. Multiple attempts to explain the technician admitted responsibility, were met by a manager who didnt care.
- Come to you
- No responsibility

Verified ReviewerPoor experiences..
The first time I required service, the technician seemed reluctant to perform it. He kept offering excuses for why I shouldn't replace my windshield.
When I firmly asserted that I still wanted it done, he came to my door and informed me that the windshield provided for my car was damaged, and that I needed to schedule a new appointment. I followed his recommendation, and found myself waiting another week for the next appointment. The technician for the second appointment called me 10 minutes before the appointment window was closing, asking if I would consent to rescheduling as they had overbooked him. I replied, 'No way!' He arrived 20 minutes later, replaced the windshield, but left the molding at the top of the windshield wrinkled and pushed away from the opening by approximately half an inch.
When I pointed this out to him, he agreed and removed about a tablespoon of sealant from behind it. He claimed that he had simply used too much sealant. The molding still didn't appear right, but he assured me it would settle in. However, 3 weeks later, it hadn't settled in, and looked terrible.
I scheduled yet another appointment with Safelite to have this matter addressed. The technician for this appointment showed up punctually, was quite pleasant, removed even more sealant from behind the molding, thus making it look significantly better. It wasn't perfect, but I could live with it. The car remained parked in my driveway for several days.
A few days later, I was passing by the vehicle and noticed some dark spots under the door handle. Initially, I assumed it was dirt and carried on with my day. When I finally decided to drive the vehicle, I noticed the dirt again, and tried to wipe it off. I quickly realised it wasn't dirt, but deep gouges in the paint where the technician had apparently opened the door with car keys in his hand.
I then noticed that the area he had been standing in (the door opening), while working on the windshield, had small scratches all over the paint. I found several areas on the paint smudged with black glue. This car was pristine - it had less than 1100 miles on it and had been parked in my private driveway. I contacted Safelite in an attempt to find some sort of remedy, but was thoroughly ignored.
They did not respond to emails or phone calls. My next step is to consult with an attorney.
The sole reason I used Safelite was due to a rock chip in the windshield on my way home from the dealership after purchasing the vehicle. Never again!
- No respect for your vehicle
- Customer service unresponsive
- Ill trained technicians
Preferred solution: Some sort of remedy.
User's recommendation: Find a better alternative. These technicians are NOT properly trained to respect your vehicle, or even do their job properly.

Verified Buyer | Scottsdale, ArizonaDamage to vehicle with no solution
I called to have a windshield replaced, I paid cash. The tech came out and replaced window.
I luckily came home before he left and found that my dash had been damaged more than it was. I had a small crack in my dash originally and had planned to do a repair from under by taking out the cluster. The damage was a large area that looked to have had something dropped or maybe fell into it. When I pointed it out the tech said that damage was there when he started.
I asked him if he had pictures and if he would send them to me. Upon receiving the pictures I could tell he was living to me and was trying to avoid taking blame. I told him that they needed to make good on this so he called the office. They offered me 50 off my window, I told them not to insult me.
They then offered a dash cover, I told them I already own one. They then agreed to have it repaired. I found out they planned on putting an after market skin over the top. I explained to them that I did not want this type of repair.
I told them that I would pay for half since the dash had a Crack and was not perfect, and that I would get estimates for the repair. I received an email from the locations manager who told me he would pay 300 as that's what his repair guy was going to charge. I got the estimates for the repair and called to speak with the replacing maker of the location who told me 300 is all they would pay and they didn't have to pay that because it had prior damage. The dealer estimates the replacement at 2600.
On top of all of this the window they installed cracked before the vehicle was even driven. They did come back out to replace it and found the window had damage on the edge before install. If you own an older truck or care be cautious of any damage they cause as they will try to find any way not to pay for it. Take before pictures before they show up to do repairs.
I will leave pictures of before and pictures of the new damage. Now that it has been driven after the damage the dash has a big hole and i will include those pictures as well.
User's recommendation: Take pictures of car inside and out of the area around window to be replaced

Verified Reviewer | Fairview Heights, IllinoisRefusal of service/denial of fault on incorrect windshield installation/crack
I had my windshield fixed at my home on July 11th 2024 I immediately noticed air was coming in when driving it later that day so when I received the request to rate my experience I noted that I would be contacting to fix the air leakage however everything else was fine. I came home from work Thursday night and did not leave again until Saturday night which is when I noticed a crack in the windshield so I scheduled a replacement due to incorrect installation causing it to crack it started as a singular line and spread but was in the middle going vertical.
I went today to have my reinstallation when I was greeted by a man and he immediately became defensive saying that the crack was not caused by their craftmanship but by a rock and that I would have to pay another 400 to get it replaced.
I explained to him that there was no way because I barely drove the car after it was replaced and the crack had to of been because of the vibration it was in the middle and went straight up and down he said he could see where the rock hit it. He was very rude telling me it was impossible for it to be their fault and that they could do nothing to help me if I didnt want to pay for a new one
When I got home I was looking at the crack and there was no clear indication that it would have been from a rock and where I assumed he meant the rock hit it was an IMPOSSIBLE spot due to it being covered by my windshield wipers so a rock COULD NOT have hit it in that spot.
I would like someone to contact me about fixing this issue normally I would not have a problem admitting if it truly was a rock however there is no chance a rock was the cause of the crack and the way I was spoken to was completely rude and unnecessary.

Verified ReviewerTech was not prepared
The tech arrived at the location for a crack repair on an F250. He was unable to reach due to the truck's height and asked for a stool or ladder, or if it was possible, to take it to the shop.
He never cleaned the glass until the first resin failed to inject; a bigger hole was made after he cleaned the area. Resin was then injected again and scraped with a blade. The UV light was never used to cure the glass. The tech was very pleasant, which I would say was a plus.
I was not happy with the process or the outcome of the work; it looks worse than before. What was a small crack before is now a spider crack.
User's recommendation: Know the process before you repair your glass

My technician, Carl, gave outstanding, reliable and professional service! He called me before arrival time and wanted to touch bases with me on where my car was located.
Once he arrived, I met him outside my place of employment and he briefly provided details of what would happen during the appointment. In about an hour as I was leaving work, he called and told me my car was ready! Thanks Carl!
Five out of five all the way! Safelite will always have my service when needed!

Verified Reviewer | Bayville, New JerseyDented my car installing windshield
Dented a car and refused responsibility. The Rt 37E, Toms River location. They were very rude and refused to do anything.
User's recommendation: Check your car after install don't leave
Defective glass, I still had to pay for. Absolute garbage customer service. No way to contact the shop. If all possible will pay extra to avoid safelite
Had a defective windshield installed. It cracked while in the driveway.
Called and scheduled warranty, wouldn't cover because cracked continued across the windshield. Defective was obvious and the tech said they could see it. Scheduled replacement through insurance for today, had a issue where my deductible had not been updated 3 months prior. While trying to straighten this matter out @ the shop the front desk was very rude to my wife and myself.
Left car for new windshield and now I can't even call the shop to see if the insurance is showing being updated even though I have a copy of the policy on my phone because everything is automated.
So in the future I will pay more and go out of my way to avoid safelite if all possible. Cheap glass and poor service.
