I had Safelight put in a new windshield for me, and now they have been out 3 times to fix this horrible whistling noise that comes from the windshield as I drive down the highway.

I have tried to be nice about it, requesting someone else come out and fix what the original guy could not, and they never give me a hard time about having to come out again...I am beginning to wonder if this a natural occurrence for them? Tons of complaints? Are they so used to it that they just say ok we will be there?

They are coming back on Monday to try again!! This is the last time, if I have to call them again it will be to come get their windshield and give me my money back! Whatever you do..Don't use this company!!!

The topic of "generic" glass comes up quite a bit here, and I think there are severe misconceptions attached to it. First of all, the brand of glass has no bearing on a whistling noise.

The windshield is held in place with urethane adhesive. The black border you see around the perimeter of your windshield is a ceramic coating on the inside called frit. The frit is where the urethane contacts the windshield because it has better adhesion than just plain glass. Regardless of manufacturer, the frit is installed on all windshields.

Whistling noise is almost always due to installer error. I've seen it rarely where poorly done previous body repairs caused an issue, but that is very uncommon. The windshield simply needs to be resealed, either from the inside or the outside, depending on which is easier on your car.

Typically, popping the A pillar mouldings and dropping the visors is safer than removing exterior moldings, as long as the headliner is well masked before any urethane is added. There is no excuse for an easy solution like this to go unfixed.

What type of vehicle do you own? Some of them, such as Honda Elements and Odysseys, have had recalls about the side moldings not sealing correctly.

Check to see if your vehicle has such a recall and if not then maybe the tech missed the set. It happens, many factors will determine the success of the install.
