Caught a rock in windshield 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Called insurance immediately and was re-directed to Safelite.

Service was scheduled the following Monday. Technician called Monday morning to tell me the w/s did not come in and re-scheduled for Tuesday. Tues morning, tech called and said w/s was in but part was not (rain sensor for Audi). He would check around noon and call me back.

Called me back Tues afternoon and said part was in and he would be at my place of work Wed morning. Never saw him -- he never called again. Monday after Thanksgiving, I called Safelite to let them know their tech never showed and re-scheduled service for later that week. Tech FINALLY showed up and replaced the w/s.

Now for the good stuff!!!! Rain sensor was inop....every time I adjusted my rearview mirror, the wiper blades would run. Then I noticed where the tech had actually cut into the pillar when removing the old w/s. He knows he did it because his greasy pawprints were all over the pillar trying to smooth it back down so I wouldn't notice it.

Called Safelite back out to repair the rain sensor. Worked better but not perfect. I then told Safelite that I will take my car to the dealer to replace the pillar and Safelite was paying for it. They tried to balk at the total price from the dealer but they finally relented and paid for it.

They didn't have a choice. This was all finally fixed two weeks ago. Last week, got into my car and noticed a big crack in the w/s. No chips, gouges or anything else -- just a big crack.

Called insurance and explained the whole situation with Safelite and told them I would not work with Safelite ever again. Insurance company agreed and took care of things to include replacement of the w/s. New company came out, replaced the w/s and this is what they found: w/s was actually cracked on the inside and outside, big gap on the bottom of the w/s to where you could actually run your finger under the bottom of the w/s, rain sensor was installed upside down, and rearview mirror was not properly seated. The new company said it was a wonder the rearview did not fall off while driving down the road. So, very long story (almost 2 months) short -- if you value your vehicle, DO NOT USE SAFELITE.

If your insurance company has a partnership agreement with Safelite, talk to your insurance rep and explain how you do not trust them and I promise your insurance company will work with you. They value you more than Safelite does or ever will.

Monetary Loss: $1000.

Location: Montgomery, Alabama

20" crack in my windshield, called the insurance company, an appointment was set up with Safelite, first time they showed up, it was to cold( they knew it was cold ), so we made another appointment, the next time it was the wrong window( that confuzzled me a bit), so we made another appointment, the next time was overscheduling or some *** enough already just give me my fricken window..GRRR), so another appointment was made for today, just got off the phone with them, they cant make it because of the weather.

The last time i had a window replaced it was 1,2,3 with my old insurance company, these guys just seem to look for excuses as to why they cant do it.

Kinda reminds me of The PopCopy episode off the Chappelle show..

Here are the facts about Safelight. When I started installing glass in the early 80's, Safelight was one of the big producers of automotive glass. We quit purchasing their glass in the early 90's and started buying LOF PPG and Carlite glass because the quality of the Safelite glass was so poor. Every windshield that we got from safelite had to be inspected before we even brought it in the shop. 2 out of 3 were sent back because of problems like chips on the edges that would eventually become a cracks, or delaminations of the two layers of glass or the most frequent problem " DISTORTS " A distort is a wave in the glass or a low spot in the glass that useually could only be seen at a angle. It kind of looks like a dent in the glass. Safelite hated when we refused glass for distorts, often stating the consumer will never notice. Your eyes can't pickup a distort, but your brain can. Driving a car with a windshield with a distort is like wearing a pair of perscription glasses. A couple of minutes is not a problem, after 30 minutes to a hour and you will get headachs. I owned a car with a distorted windshield. It took a hour and I had a splitting headach. I eventually replaced the windshield.

Anyway, I quit doing business with safelite along with most other glass installers. Safelite could no longer sell their glass, so they opened glass installation shops to counter the problem of nobody buying their glass. They are the manufacturer of most of the glass they install. They do purchase some of the glass, but most they produce. This gives them the ability to do the job cheaper and have negotiated with the insurance companys to do the job at a discount. Anywhere from 10 to 40 percent off. The insurance company doesn't care about the consumer and they go with whatevers cheaper. They don't care if the glass is thinner or if it has distorts or if it cracks 2 days later. They know the customer is paying for 75% of the cost to put the windshield in.

Another fact is that most of the safelite employees have very little experience. Their education consists of following another installer for a few weeks. Useually paid a little over minimum wage. Don't blame the intaller for the companys incompentance.

Bottom line is as follows. " YOU WOULDN'T LET A INSURANCE ADJUSTER DO A OPEN HEART PROCDURE ON YOU... SO WHY LET HIM DECIDE WHERE TO HAVE YOUR WINDSHEILD INSTALLED. " Do your homework and ask around or stop in a body shop or glass shop and talk with the installer himself, get a estimate and ask questions.

Reading all these safelite reviews, blows me away! Their work is terrible, the glass is distorted and they don't guarantee their repairs.

This company does not train their techs and *** their customers and give them the run around when anyone calls and complains....customer no service. Dont their managers read thesereviews?

Shop around and use a local shop instead. They seem to care a lot more.
